Goa is a small state with a large population of Christians. It is known as a Christian state. Goa is termed as “Land of Churches & Temples”. There are a number of churches in Goa built by the Portuguese. Old Goa is well known for its churches.

A church in Goa is an important factor in maintaining social, religious and cultural life. It helped people in their day to day troubles of life, spreading of education, building hospitals, etc.
All the churches are well illuminated at night. Churches are decorated every day, month or year. But, during Christmas, churches are decorated with artifacts, wrapped in lights, hay grass, Clay statues, clay lamps are also used for decoration. They are fully decorated like a bride.

One of the most popular churches in Goa, the Basilica of Bom Jesus truly deserves to be given the status of a World Heritage Site.
